UK Sports Institute

The UK Sports Institute (UKSI) is a strategic partner of BASES. Both BASES and the UKSI are committed to raising standards in the application of sport and exercise science and promoting evidence-based practice in the high performance sport sector in the UK.

Who are the UK Sports Institute?

The UK Sports Institute delivers outstanding support that enables sports and athletes to excel. As the largest single provider of world-class science, medicine, technology, and engineering services to Olympic and Paralympic sports in the United Kingdom, the UK Sports Institute has played a crucial role in contributing to the success of thousands of athletes since its inception in 2002.

Over the last four Olympic and Paralympic cycles, the UKSI has evolved quietly and effectively into an organisation consistently performing at a world-leading level, contributing to over 1,000 Olympic and Paralympic medals.

The organisation was formerly known as the English Institute of Sport before changing its name in April 2023.

Raising standards

As part of its commitment to raising standards and promoting excellence in applied sports science, the UKSI now requires all of its sport and exercise science practitioners that provide Physiology and Biomechanics support to be BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientists.
