Mike is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise), Professor of Applied Policy Sciences and Head of the School of Human and Life Sciences at Canterbury Christ Church University. His substantive background is in translational and contract research and from 2008-2013 he was Founder and Director of the Centre for Sport, Physical Education and Activity Research at Canterbury Christ Church University. In this role, Mike has been highly influential in informing policy for government departments, the commercial sector and various other public and third sector organisations, much of which has been visible and impactful in shaping policy or informing investments.
Drawing on a wide range of social science disciplines, including social psychology, sociology, economics, geography and policy science, his work has focussed on informing, improving and interrogating policy in the applied domains of public health, physical activity, physical education, sport, tourism, transport, urban development and major events.
