University of Essex
Valerie is the course director for the Sport and Exercise Science degree at University of Essex. She joined the Centre for Sports & Exercise Science at the University of Essex in September 2000 as a Lecturer in Sports Science. She obtained her PhD in 2001 entitled "Reflex mechanisms eliciting the changes in heart rate caused by isometric exercise", studying under the guidance of Professor John Coote in the Medical School at the University of Birmingham. Valerie's main research interests include physical activity and the natural environment, the importance of green spaces for promoting physical activity, behaviour change and workplace wellbeing.
