Towards a Royal Charter for BASES

5th July 2021

You may recall receiving a member email on 20 April 2021 regarding a briefing and Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Steps towards a Royal Charter for BASES. This followed the BASES Board proposing that now was a good time to prepare to seek a Royal Charter, which will provide formal and permanent recognition of BASES’ quality and pre-eminence. A Royal Charter for BASES would enable it to award ‘Chartered member’ status to anyone who demonstrates the relevant level of skill, knowledge and experience in the field of sport and exercise sciences. Building on BASES existing accreditation routes, Chartered status would enable individual members to clearly demonstrate their professional achievements in a recognisable and legally-protected way.

As a member-led organisation, it is essential that the developing proposals reflect the views of our membership. As part of an ongoing process of engagement, we have prepared a short survey to gather the initial views of members about the principle of a Royal Charter for BASES. The survey is completely anonymous, but if you would like to follow up on any of your comments, you will be able to leave your contact details at the end of the survey.

Members have been sent an email with the survey details included.

The survey is live now, and will be open for four weeks, closing 10 am on Monday 2 August 2021. Once closed, the survey will be analysed, with a report prepared for the BASES Board, after which further updates will be shared with members.

We do hope you can spare a few minutes to complete this important, but short survey.

Thank you,

BASES Board
