SEPAR candidates to benefit from the new BASES mental health in sport and exercise units

14th December 2020

Earlier this year, BASES commissioned Drs Paul Gorczynski and Anthony Papathomas to develop a bespoke suite of mental health resources. Designed specifically for the trainee sport psychologist, these educational materials will support learners to develop essential knowledge on the critical issue of mental health in sport.

Eight unique units, comprising of video lecture with resource booklet and guided reading list, are free to all SEPAR candidates, supervisors and reviewers. There is a core focus on the following topics: mental health; depressive disorders; anxiety disorders; post-traumatic stress disorder; eating disorders; addictive behaviours; understanding stigma; and mental health literacy. SEPAR is the only accreditation pathway delivering structured educational content and this is indicative of BASES’ commitment to providing a best-in-class accreditation experience.

This helpful suite of resources has been shared with SEPAR candidates, supervisors and reviewers today and will support learners to develop a further interest in a particular topic area.

Commenting on the release of these resources to SEPAR candidates, supervisors and reviews, Prof Richard Thelwell FBASES, Chair of the SEPAR Committee said, “In our continued drive to ensure that the BASES SEPAR is a gold standard, sector leading training route, we are delighted to announce that the online 'Mental Health in Sport and Exercise' modules are now available for SEPAR candidates. Developed and delivered by two of the UK’s leading experts, Drs Paul Gorczynski and Anthony Papathomas, the modules facilitate ongoing knowledge and competence development for SEPAR candidates in a manner that is accessible and easy to navigate. We hope that you enjoy this unique offering within your SEPAR journey.”

These resources will go on sale in January 2021 and will be available to learners and practitioners wider than those on the SEPAR journey. Details of how to access these resources will be shared w/c 14 January 2021.
