Celebrating Clinical Exercise Physiology as a Registered Healthcare Profession
28th November 2023
‘Celebrating CEP as a Registered Healthcare Profession’ was a satellite event to the BASES conference which took place on Wednesday 15th November at the Techno Centre at Coventry University.
Thank you to all delegates and speakers for making the event a success.
Prof Mike Grocott, Professor of Anaesthesia & Critical Care at the University of Southampton, opened the event with his keynote: ‘Exercise is Life’.
Delegates then heard from Clinical Exercise Physiologists and BASES CPD Grant winners, Nicole Coull and Jack McNamara, who gave valuable insight into their career journeys so far and how they are using the grants for continued professional development.
Prof Greg Whyte, Professor of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University, led a roundtable discussion with panel members Prof Helen Jones, Prof David Broom, Dr Lizanne Steencamp, Mr Andrew Davies and Professor Mike Grocott. This was an engaging discussion between panel members and the delegates and covered topics including CPD opportunities for CEPs and the future of the Clinical Exercise Physiology profession.
“What does the ideal prehabilitation programme before major upper GI cancer surgery look like? Outcomes from a multi-disciplinary POQI conference” was the final presentation of the afternoon by Mr Andrew Davies, Consultant Oesophagogastric and General Surgeon at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital.
Prof Helen Jones, Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Chair of the CEP-UK Steering Group closed the event by thanking speakers and delegates and announcing the date for The Inaugural CEP-UK Conference 2024. A drinks reception followed which provided an opportunity for delegates and speakers to network.
Save the date! The Inaugural CEP-UK Conference: Friday 5th April 2024 at Manchester Metropolitan University.
