Call to Action: Expressions of interest - BASES Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Group

31st August 2023

The BASES Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group (EDI AG) is now seeking two posts from Professional members and two posts from Student members, one of which must be an Undergraduate Student. The new appointees will help steer BASES EDI strategy, ensuring an integrated, proactive approach to equity, diversity and inclusion informed by sector best practice. We encourage applications from all individuals with a passion for EDI, but particularly support applications from our applied practitioner members to ensure a more accurate representation of BASES membership.

If you are interested in applying for the roles, the terms of reference for the Group can be found here.

The appointment of the EDI Advisory Group members will be via a formal, open and transparent recruitment process, with the aim of attracting the widest range of the most suitable talent. At BASES, we are committed to Fairness, Professionalism, Honesty, Responsibility and Excellence. We strive to improve our ways of working to be more inclusive and diverse, to accelerate our impact on society and live up to our Values. We acknowledge that we lack representation from various underrepresented groups and therefore strongly encourage applications that will amplify the voices of people with a disability, those from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, women or gender diverse people in STEMM and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please notify the Chief Executive Officer (iwilson@bases.org.uk) if you require reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process.

To apply for any of these current vacancies, please submit a maximum of two pages of A4, outlining:

  • why you are volunteering for this role,
  • what skills and experience you would bring to the EDI Advisory Group to complement the ongoing or new projects,
  • what you expect to gain from undertaking this role,
  • and any ideas you have about moving forward the work and priorities of the EDI Advisory Group.

Please email this to the BASES Office (enquiries@bases.org.uk) by 10 am (BST) on Friday 22 September 2023. Please mark this email as confidential and within the subject header, please add “BASES EDI Advisory Group application and your category” (either Professional, Undergraduate Student or Postgraduate Student).

The EDI Advisory Group and Chief Executive Officer will review all applications. The successful applicants will be announced in October 2023.

If any prospective applicant would like a confidential chat about the role, please contact Ian Wilson, BASES Chief Executive Officer (iwilson@bases.org.uk) (not available 15 to 22 September 2023) or Dr Kotryna Fraser, BASES EDI AG Chair (kotryna.fraser@sydney.edu.au).

We would like to thank the outgoing members of the EDI AG for their hard work for BASES and our members over their tenure.
