BASES Tender Brief Towards Charter Status
26th July 2021
As part of the BASES Strategy 2021-2025, in order to develop and strengthen both the discipline of sport and exercise science and BASES’ role as the leading professional body within the field, the Board of Directors feel that it is now the right time to prepare to seek a Royal Charter, which would provide formal and permanent recognition of BASES’ quality and pre-eminence.
The Board is therefore seeking to appoint a consultant with relevant skills and experience to support the BASES’ operational team to prepare for the submission of a Royal Charter petition. The appointed consultant will lead on two key stages of the process towards obtaining a Royal Charter, namely:
Stage 1 – Laying the groundwork with members, partners, stakeholders and the Privy Council:
To plan, deliver and manage regular and ongoing engagement with all relevant stakeholders, and to prepare and maintain an ongoing consultation report and risk register.
Stage 2 – Formal preparation of Royal Charter Petition:
To prepare and develop draft proposal documents, including proposal, articles and byelaws, transition plan, and Privy Council Petition.
The Board intends to initially appoint a consultant to support in the delivery of Stage 1. Subject to satisfactory performance at Stage 1 and agreement of a suitable budget and programme for Stage 2, BASES intends to retain the same consultant to deliver Stage 2.
