BASES announces a public talk on 'sleep health' within the BASES 2021 Conference
25th October 2021
Earlier this year, BASES established a new Outreach Project Team, the aim of which is to increase public engagement and awareness of BASES. The first project to be delivered will be a public talk, open to any interested parties, and this will take place during the virtual BASES 2021 Conference. This free, public session, From Podium to Pillow: How to Sleep Well to Optimise Health and Performance will take place from 7 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday 17 November 2021.
We all sleep, and bad sleep and bad sleep habits can impact your health and performance. Presenters Dr Sarah Gilchrist FBASES (Gilchrist Performance) and Dr Luke Gupta (English Institute of Sport) both have extensive experience supporting clients and elite athletes to achieve the best night’s sleep. This open webinar will provide insights and practical advice from the elite sporting arena to help you improve your sleep health to make the most out of your day.
Outcomes for the session include becoming aware of ‘sleep health’ and how it influences other overall health, wellbeing, and everyday performance; understanding how sleep operates in elite sporting environments and how this translates into everyday life; and learning how to manage sleep health when it becomes challenged.
Luke is a chartered scientist and an accredited sports physiologist with a decade of experience working with elite sport teams. He has provided support to a multitude of sports over two Olympiads and lead the delivery of sleep and circadian management towards the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Sarah spent over 20 years working in the high performance sport industry, latterly as a Technical Lead for the English Institute of Sport and Senior Physiologist with British Rowing. Her doctorate specialised in sleep and athletic performance and she now provides consultancy on a range of performance areas, particularly relating to sleep.
Places are limited for this free session. To reserve your place, please register for the event here.
BASES is looking forward to seeing as many colleagues at the BASES 2021 Conference (16 to 18 November 2021) and to welcoming those colleagues who sign up and attend the public session on ‘sleep health’ on 17 November 2021.
