BASES’ Role Models initiative for underrepresented members

18th January 2022

In December 2021, the BASES’ Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group (EDI AG) launched the Role Models initiative. The initiative seeks to increase the visibility of members from underrepresented groups within the organisation.

How does it work?

Members are asked to nominate a fellow member from an underrepresented group (see below) who inspires or empowers them. If nominees agree to take part in the initiative, then their profile will be added to the Role Models webpage and will be promoted via social media and the Journal of Sports Sciences podcast. Please nominate a BASES Role Model via this form

Who is eligible?

Nominated Role Models need to be a Professional, Graduate or student member of BASES and be from under-represented groups which include women, people with disabilities, people from minoritised ethnic groups within the UK, low-socioeconomic groups, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, non-conforming and other people.

The benefits?

The initiative will help BASES to achieve its EDI aims, which include creating greater opportunities for any individual to fulfil their science- and practice-based potential, irrespective of their background or circumstances. Moreover, the initiative will help to promote individuals from underrepresented group and showcase the diversity within BASES. It is hoped that this will have a positive effect on current and future members within the organisation.

Please use the form here to make your nomination. Nominations are welcome each month, with a deadline of the 28th of each month.
