Appointment of Dr Andrew Scott as BASES representative on the Board of the International Confederation of Sport and Exercise Science Practice (ICSESP)

14th February 2023

BASES, along with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Canadian Society For Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and Sport and Exercise Science New Zealand (SESNZ), is a Foundational Full Member of the International Confederation of Sport and Exercise Science Practice (ICSESP), for which Dr Keith Tolfrey FBASES has represented BASES on their board for the last two years. Keith has now concluded his current two-year term and the BASES Board is pleased to announce that, following open advert last month, Dr Andrew Scott has been appointed as our new Rep on the ICSESP Board. Andrew will attend his first meeting of the ICSESP Board early next month.

Andrew has been involved with BASES since graduating with his degree; he is the former convenor of the BASES Clinical Exercise Science and Practice Interest Group and is the current CPD Lead on the BASES Clinical Exercise Physiology UK Advisory Group. As CPD Lead, he liaises with CEOs of the ICSESP national Associations. Within his application, Andrew described how he is living our BASES values.

Commenting on his recent tenure, Dr Keith Tolfrey FBASES said, “It was a proud moment for me when BASES was inaugurated as a founding member of the ICSESP in 2020, following two years of meetings with the international alliance steering committee to establish the framework. Colleagues (friends) in ACSM, CSEP, ESSA and SESNZ have been amazing to work with on a variety of inaugural projects and agreements between the groups to share resources for the benefit of members. I am delighted to be passing the BASES ICSESP Directorial role onto Andy Scott who will develop new projects and objectives in the longer-term pursuit of bringing sport and exercise practice support to countries that do not have well-established national groups to guide and assist them. Kade, Francis, Kirstin, Nathan and Nick – thanks for your support and friendship, and good luck going forward with the ICSESP, it has been an enjoyable ride!”

Commenting on the new appointment, Dr Andrew Scott said, “I've been involved with the work of the ICSESP for some years following my lead role in supporting the development of Clinical Exercise Physiology practice in the UK. I look forward to continuing this work with national Associations to support the development of internationally recognised Standards for science and practice in the broad area of exercise and sport science to enhance transnational opportunities for BASES members.”

The BASES Board thanks Keith for his hard work and service on the ICSESP Board and wishes Andrew well as incoming BASES Rep.
