An update on the Chartered Scientist registration fee

Chartered Scientist (CSci) represents a single chartered mark for all scientists, recognising high levels of professionalism and competence in science. BASES is a Licensed Member Body of the Science Council, enabling us to award Chartered Scientist status to members who meet the criteria.

All BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientists are eligible to become Chartered Scientists, having demonstrated the required standards through the BASES Accreditation application process. BASES currently has 213 active Chartered Scientists. Members are eligible to submit their applications for CSci within the two BASES Accreditation and Re-accreditation windows, namely 1 December to 6 January or 1 June to 1 July.

Registration for CSci is £60 per year, which includes the Science Council fee, which has increased slightly over the last couple of years. The BASES Board has agreed not to pass on this Science Council increase to our members, and at its meeting on 16 September 2021, the Board agreed to keep the CSci registration fee at £60.

Our license to award Chartered Scientist status to members who meet the criteria is due for interim review in 2022 and we are working hard with the Science Council over our re-submission. Any modifications to the standards, competencies or processes will be shared with members in due course.

Outside of CSci, BASES engages with the Science Council over a number of areas, including Diversity and Inclusion and Policy. We actively engage with the CEO & Leaders Forum, the Policy Forum, the Event Managers Network, the Marketing and Communications Forum and the Membership Managers Network. Recently, Chair-Elect, Prof Zoe Knowles FBASES had an informative catch-up call with the incoming Science Council President, Prof Carol Mundell.
